At the 2024 Educators Rising National Conference in Washington, D.C., from June 28 to July 1, 2024, student competitors have seven new competitions to aspire to and prepare to win, including five new Spanish language competitions.

Educators Rising national competitions are performance-based competitive events where teenage, aspiring teachers demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and leadership in education. With a blend of individual and team events, competitions are authentic, engaging opportunities for rising educators to stretch their creativity, commitment, and professionalism.

Based on the same scoring rubrics as their English language counterparts translated into Spanish, Children’s Literature – Pre-K Spanish, Children’s Literature – K-3 Spanish, Educators Rising Moment – Spanish, Inside Our Schools – Spanish, and Lesson Planning and Delivery – Spanish will be competed at regional and state conferences this fall before culminating with the top students from each state competing in Washington, D.C.

These five competitions expand upon an initiative started by Educators Rising to enable students who feel more comfortable in Spanish than English to participate in competitions and gain the applicable teaching skills that Educators Rising’s competitions provide.

Educators Rising Moment – Spanish will also be open to collegiate competitors from the Educators Rising Collegiate program. Middle-school competitors will be able to compete in the Children’s Literature Spanish competitions as well as Educators Rising Moment Spanish.

Debuting at the 2023 Educators Rising National Conference, the program’s first Spanish language competition, Children’s Literature – Spanish, had 50 competitors from across the United States. The competition, generously sponsored by the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, had winners in two divisions. Andrea Rico and Sara Melendez of Royal High School in Brookshire, Texas, won at the
Junior Varsity level for students in the 9th and 10th grades, and Gala Meseguer-Molina from Laurel Senior High School in Laurel, Delaware, won the Varsity division for students in the 11th and 12th grades.

Two new team competitions – Outstanding Chapter and Public Service Announcement – Teacher Recruitment – will debut at the national level next year.
