Education is not just a career; it’s a calling. As a paraprofessional, I’ve been privileged to work closely with students and educators, playing a vital role in shaping young minds. When I was introduced to the Educators Rising practicum experience in high school, I saw it as more than just a learning opportunity — it was a chance to reflect on my role in the classroom and explore my passion for education on a deeper level.
As a paraprofessional, my day-to-day responsibilities are as diverse as the students I support. I work one-on-one with preschool students who need extra guidance, adapt lesson plans to accommodate different learning styles, and assist teachers in maintaining a productive classroom environment. Whether it’s helping a student grasp a tricky math concept, providing emotional support during challenging moments, or ensuring all students feel included, I am driven by the belief that every child deserves an opportunity to succeed.
I’ve realized that my work is not just about supporting students academically — it’s about being a source of encouragement, resilience, and inspiration.
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned is the importance of adaptability. I’ve always known that no two students are the same. However, the practicum reinforced just how critical it is to remain flexible, creative, and patient when addressing the unique challenges and gifts each student brings. Another key takeaway has been the power of collaboration. Working alongside teachers, administrators, and fellow practicum participants has shown me the strength of a united educational community. Together, we can create an environment where students feel empowered and supported. Being in a classroom as both a paraprofessional and a practicum participant has solidified my passion for teaching. I’ve realized that my work is not just about supporting students academically — it’s about being a source of encouragement, resilience, and inspiration.
